Celebrate and honor Indigenous Peoples' Day! Great Plains Action Society, Iowa City Parks & Recreation, the Office of Equity and Human Rights, and the Human Rights Commission will be celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, from 5-7:30 pm in the Park Lodge at the Terry Trueblood Lodge Recreation Area, 579 McCollister Blvd.
The focus of this event is to celebrate and bring awareness of Native American culture, to correct mythology, and bring light to the challenges within the Native American community, including political issues, land acquisitions, the missing and murdered Indigenous woman campaign, and the misuse of Native Americans in school and team mascots.
The event will include:
- Free traditional Native American food
- A cultural celebration
- Learning activities for children
- Informative conversation about the current climate of the Native American community
