Accreditation
The Iowa City Police Department was awarded CALEA Law Enforcement Accreditation for the seventh time in March 2021. The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., also known as CALEA, was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of major law enforcement executive associations.
The purpose of CALEA's Accreditation Program is to improve the delivery of public safety services by maintaining a body of standards developed by public safety practitioners that covers a wide range of up-to-date public safety initiatives, while also establishing and administering an accreditation process, and recognizing professional excellence.
As part of the Iowa City Police Department's ongoing efforts to maintain the highest standards of policing and public service, the community is encouraged to provide feedback on ICPD's quality of service, policies, and procedures.

Please note due to the high volume of requests, the Iowa City Police Department cannot accommodate requests for patches or other police memorabilia.
