Transportation Services – We keep Iowa City moving!
Iowa City Transit (ICT) provides safe, efficient, affordable, and sustainable transportation service to the Iowa City community. ICT provides a million rides a year by serving over 500 bus stops, serving residents, students, and visitors six days a week. We partner with Johnson County SEATS, the University of Iowa Cambus, and Coralville Transit to help serve the area’s transit needs.
And as of August 1, 2023,Iowa City Transit is Fare Free.
Our Mission
ICT’s mission is to continually grow and evolve operations to better meet the needs of the community, to achieve Climate Action goals, and to encourage increased use of this important community resource. While taking transit is always the most sustainable choice for trips that require a vehicle, ICT became an even better choice in 2022 with the addition of four battery electric buses to our fleet. Our new buses are powered by 88% renewable energy – an incredible leap forward for sustainable transportation!
Our Parking Operations include six public parking ramps that provide electric vehicle charging at no additional fee, as well as metered and short-term parking for personal and commercial use throughout the Downtown. Transportation Services supports and encourages walking and bicycling by ensuring there is plenty of bike parking available throughout the Downtown, and by maintaining the Central Business District to ensure Downtown is a clean, comfortable, and enjoyable place to visit.
