The Communications Office serves as the central hub for access to City information, connecting the public to the resources they need to stay engaged, informed, and become involved. From public safety information to grassroots connection, the Communications Team works to keep you informed.

The City of Iowa City is committed to providing equal access. Individuals with speech or hearing disabilities may dial 711 to access Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) from a telephone or TTY at no cost. Individuals who use American Sign Language (ASL) may call the City directly via their preferred video relay service. Learn more at RelayIowa.com.

The City also offers assistance in multiple languages using Language Line services. Customers can call or stop by City Hall for assistance.




City Channel 4

City Channel 4 is the government access channel for the City. It is available in the channel lineup for Mediacom cable TV customers and to everyone online at citychannel4.com. The creative team provides audiovisual support to the City, as well as live broadcasting and archiving of City Council meetings, which can be viewed live on the first and third Tuesday of each month.

Local Programming

City Channel 4 produces two local informational programs:

  • Iowa City Update
    A weekly video featuring City of Iowa City projects, programs and events.
  • Iowa City in Focus
    A monthly video spotlighting the community through in-depth storytelling.

Neighborhood Outreach & Engagement

Neighborhood Outreach & Engagement staff work with the City’s Neighborhood Associations, engaging residents throughout the community, providing support, and nurturing healthy and active neighborhoods. The neighborhood liaison works to keep residents informed of City issues and fosters positive partnerships to align our neighborhoods with the City’s Strategic goals.
