ICPD patchWelcome! The City of Iowa City is now accepting applications for Police Officers.

Entry level Officer starting wage is $58,905 annually and certified Officer starting wage is commensurate with experience up to $92,684 annually. ILEA certified Officers also qualify for a $5,000 signing bonus. The residency requirement has recently been expanded to living within 25 miles of the corporate limits of Iowa City within one year of hire.

Candidates who submit an online application by Friday, September 6, 2024 will be scheduled for immediate testing with interviews tentatively planned for the third full week in October 2024.

Salary

  • Entry level officers start at $58,905.60

Residency Requirement

  • Officers must live within 25 miles of the corporate limits of Iowa City within one year of hire.

Rotation of 4 Days On, 2 Days Off

  • Days - 7am to 3pm
  • Evenings - 3pm to 11pm
  • Nights - 11pm to 7am
  • Investigations - hours vary

The Iowa Smokefree Air Act prohibits smoking in all public buildings owned, leased or operated by or under the control of the City of Iowa City, including the grounds of the public buildings such as the sidewalks and the sitting or standing areas immediately adjacent to the buildings. Also, smoking is prohibited in all vehicles owned, leased or operated by or under the control of the City of Iowa City.
