The Iowa City Airport Commission will host an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023, where initial design directions for improvements to its 70-year-old terminal building, surrounding landscape, and entry drive will be shared.
Airport officials and the design team will make brief presentations at 5 p.m. with opportunities for public comment. Come visit and see how our plans are developing! The Iowa City Airport team will collect input from members of the public regarding the Airport’s future space needs.
The existing terminal building was constructed in 1951 and designed by Henry L. Fisk. The Iowa City Airport Commission has contracted with Bolton & Menk, Inc. to study options to improve the terminal building and entrance gateway in order to increase the accessibility, efficiency, and utility of the terminal building to both the aviation and non-aviation community.
The Iowa City Municipal Airport, directed by the Airport Commission, provides a safe, cost-effective general aviation facility. The Airport creates and enriches economic, educational, healthcare, cultural, and recreational opportunities for the greater Iowa City community. The Iowa City Airport has 33,000 operations per year and provides a $24 million economic impact to the greater Iowa City/Johnson County area.
