Did you know a poorly insulated attic loses as much heat as a window left open all winter?
Iowa City offers a grant for income-qualified Iowa City homeowners that covers the cost to increase the amount of insulation in their home. It is different from a loan that needs to be repaid or a rebate that requires participants to file for reimbursement. Under this program, costs are paid directly to the contractor by the City.
The grant covers insulation and air-sealing of the attic and any required ventilation. There is a limit of $5,000 per project. In the rare cases where this is insufficient to cover the full cost of the project, homeowners are responsible for the amount above $5,000. Please note that the Climate Action Office will ultimately determine if your project is feasible and aligns with program requirements and insulation standards. Grants are available on a per-applicant basis until funds are exhausted.
