Our firefighters enjoy a completive salary and health insurance in one of the most vibrant communities in the Midwest! In 2022, Iowa City was ranked as the 45th best place to live in the country by Livability.com. It's also home Big 10 athletic events year round thanks to the University of Iowa, one of the premiere art museums in the Midwest at the UI Stanley Museum of Art, and the internationally renowned performance art venue Hancher Auditorium. 

Besides working in a great community, firefighters receive paid training, and potential promotional opportunities in special operation, hazmat, prevention, and education. 

The work week comprises of working three days out of five, followed by four days off.
