Iowa City Parks and Recreation provides over 270 garden plots to individuals and organizations to grow and harvest their own vegetables, fruits, and herbs. It is also great way to get outside, meet your neighbors and share different gardening tips. 

Garden Plot Registration

Garden plot renewals for the 2024 season will be held February 12 – March 8. New garden plot registration will open to the public on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. Registrations will be taken in-person only at the Mercer Park Aquatic Center beginning at 7 a.m. Only one plot registration is permitted per person. Online and phone registrations will be accepted beginning on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

*Please note an additional $5 fee will be applied to each plot rental for all non-Iowa City residents.

End of Season

Please don't forget to remove all your non-plant material (plastic, metal, cardboard, newspaper, etc.) from your rented city garden plots by Friday, October 18, 2024.

Garden Gleaning and Clean Out Days

Iowa City Parks and Recreation staff and Table to Table volunteers will be on-site to assist with end-of-season cleanup.

Chadek Green Park

The park improvement project to Chadek Green Park includes ADA access improvements, a new restroom, a new shelter, and a parking area.

A public meeting was held at Chadek Green Park to review the proposed improvement concepts and collect public input. For those that were unable to attend a public input feedback form was also available. Feedback is currently being compiled.
