Community Development staff administer a variety of programs through the City's receipt of federal HOME and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) grant dollars. Services include innovative housing programs, small business services, and various public amenity improvement projects.

Boards, Commissions, Task Forces, & Committees

The Community Development Division provides staff assistance to the following boards and commissions.

Housing and Community Development Commission (HCDC)
A nine person, City Council appointed, commission that assesses and reviews policies and planning documents related to the provision of housing, jobs, and services for low and moderate income residents in Iowa City.

Johnson County Local Homeless Coordinating Board
The JCLHCB is the designated body to initiate, address and coordinate policy at the local level with the goal to eliminate homelessness in Johnson County. Contact: Rachel Lehmann at rachel.lehmann@shelterhouseiowa.org.
